Valuing the study of ancient cultures

While vital and often regarded as tradition, the study of history is not always captivating. Teaching children about ancient cultures is the least of the concerns of the modern world. Without a genuine interest on history of world civilizations, it would be difficult to share its essence to students. When a person becomes aware of the past, they gain a better understanding of present societal issues.

The study of ancient cultures is not valued as it should be, as many students lack good understanding of how historical foundations play a part in molding modern beliefs. According to historical archaeologist Dr. Paul M. Willette, a proper lesson on history would provide an individual with consciousness on dominant civilizations and their role in shaping different societies. Knowledge on this field affords one the capacity to understand current societal, political, and geographical disputes.

Historical consciousness is critical in maintaining a grip on the historic global bases of modern beliefs. With the past as foundation of the present and the future, events are on loop. As history is known to repeat itself, people are expected to come up with better answers to perpetual issues. While the present and future are given the upper hand in the war for having an understanding of the past, current battles are still challenging.
